Never Cry Werewolf (2008)
Never Cry Werewolf (2008)
Director: Brenton Spencer
Jared Martin moves next door to the Hansetts, along with his hot motorcycle and eerie, ill-tempered dog. Although everyone else in the neighborhood takes an instant liking to him, Loren Hansett can't get over the bad vibes her new neighbor gives her. She starts to spy on his nocturnal activities and comes to believe that a recent killing might the work of a werewolf who happens to be her new neighbor.
If you were to look up a prime example of a movie that is clearly trying too hard you'd see this film. Never Cry Werewolf, is a film that you can see tries to appeal it's self to the teen audience. It also takes the werewolf lore and attempts to turn the movie into a bit of a Fright Night rehash. Only we have a girl next door who knows the neighbor isn't what he says he is. And just like in Fright Night, she can't seem to prove her case. So she has a boyfriend to save before midnight, oh and she find's a wacky character to go along for the ride to save the day. To say it followed the format on that classic movie wouldn't at all be a lie. It's really rather obvious.
Adding to the odd factors already, we have a wolf man who seems to have the hots for this school girl who may or may not be 18, I'm not really sure. But if she isn't, I guess it's no worse than the old vampire wanting the teen girl in Twilight. Oh, and in a moment that is just hilarious in how corny it is, our main girl decides when it's time to battle this wolf at the end of the show she should change into a very athletic based; yet skimpy outfit. Because nothing says, "I'm here to kick ass" like showing off that bare midriff. In the end, things get just slightly boring. It seems to have a very forced R rating, and it's good for a laugh here and there. Mostly in the parts of the film where a laugh isn't actually intended. Outside all of that, it's about as by the book as a film can get. You'd be OK to skip this one.
