Werewolf Woman (1976)
Werewolf Woman (1976)
Director: Rino Di Silvestro
A woman has dreams that she is a werewolf so she goes out and finds men. She proceeds to have sex with them and then rip their throats out with her teeth. She eventually falls in love but then she is raped and her lover is murdered so she goes out for revenge. Yes, it's a very sad story, even for 1976. But it just doesn't find what it needs to come across as powerful as it might be sounding here.
So you have a movie here that looks really dated. Now don't get me wrong. sometimes that can be a very good thing. Then you have movies like this where nothing works as well as they intend. As a result, you have an old looking movie that really tosses some of the old school flavor at you, but the flavor just isn't any good. You have the dramatic moments, you have the tight camera shots that zoom up on people's eyes, but still it just lacks on the interesting level and fails. Or at least it did for me. Maybe that don't mean much to some, but I like fun stuff and well made stuff all alike. This one to me however doesn't fall in under those labels.
Another issue I have with this movie is it's slow pace. It just never seems to get in a hurry. I admit some of the visuals are cool looking, especially for it's time. But it's just not enough to really tide me over with the slow and dull build this movie has in between all that. Maybe the film thinks its more clever than it actually is. Perhaps the movie is trying to be some classy horror film that it simply isn't? I really don't know for sure, but I just did not really care for this movie over all. I think it does pick up a bit near the end, but by that time you'll be a much better movie goer than me if you aren't already tuned out.
