The Prologue
In another case of, "Chuck tortures himself", after I had the..um..honor, of watching Zombie 3, I decided to go ahead and check out the other notoriously bad, Zombie 4: After Death. Keep in mind here that I didn't pay over $4 for this, so I don't think I got ripped too much on it. And to be fair, perhaps we should mentioned that this was a sequel to the classic Zombie 2 (yeah, 3 came after that but whatever) in name only. Basically, this movie's title is, After Death. The Zombie was tossed on to cash in and doesn't even appear in the film's title screen. I will at least give them credit for trying to be honest.

The Movie
A woman goes back to the island where her parents were killed. They had been working on a cure for cancer and accidentally raised the dead by angering a voodoo priest. With the woman is a group of mercenaries and they meet up with some other researchers. They raise the dead again and all hell breaks loose. Of course, these zombies look like hobos and it's all rather funny in it's awful nature, but what more could we expect from the man who gave us Troll 2?

"Zombie 4" here doesn't bring anything to the table that we haven't already seen before. It also doesn't give us much to remember outside of some nice gore and a cheesy hair metal song that they seem to play at any chance they can get. Going back to the roots of the zombie lore, by way of a evil voodoo man who seems to unleash these awkward zombies upon the land, I found it really hard not to roll my eyes at different times while watching. But I could perhaps still see where a movie like this could be fun at a party, or while watching with friends. Bad movies are great for that type of stuff after all.

The old saying with zombies, that I tend to really push, states that Zombies DON'T Run. If the zombie here simply ran we could perhaps look over it. These zombies hop around, talk, and even shoot machine guns. Making matters worse, they look like monks, or hobos, or maybe even decayed retarded ninjas. It's really a sight to see and a sight to see for all the wrong reasons. And don't bother looking for a cast of people to get behind and root for either. We have a large cast of dull actors that are overacting and just looking really out of place and lost in the whole mix of things. It makes the film funny to watch, but not by any means good.

In perspective of everything I seen in this movie, nothing makes a whole lot of sense. Apparently the door to hell is a group of candles on a table? And our attractive but underwhelming blonde lead has a necklace that is supposed to be able to close this door? Did I get that right? It's really such a mess it's hard to say. And I can pretty much guarantee you won't be able to make any sorta logic out of the ending. While the goofy nature of everything in, After Death, might be good for a laugh, I don't think it'll be the end of the world if you skip this one.

The Conclusion
Well, if I must be blunt, the movie kinda sucks. It not something you want to watch more than once for fun alone, but the cheesiness might come in handy with a group of friends. Their was recently a blu-ray of this released, but I went with the dvd. It's a lot cheaper and plus, I don't think the blu-ray would look THAT great anyway. Do I dare try my luck now with Zombie 5?? Only if I can find it really REALLY cheap.

2012 WWE Royal Rumble Preview AND Predictions!

You know, it was a big decision when I decided to toss in some wrestling around here. But one of the perks of adding in such things, is now I get to act like I'm 5 again when big wrestling events take place. And tonight is a BIG wrestling event. It's the 25th Anniversary (well, sorta) of the WWE's Royal Rumble! An event that might come only second to WrestleMania as THE event in pro wrestling. So, with that in mind, let's run down the car along with my BOLD predictions for each!

John Cena vs. Kane

Since Kane returned, wearing a mask, he's been out to torture John Cena. He's rubbing the fact that Cena is dealing with what seems to be a 20/80 split with the fans on his cheer vs. boo ratio, with Cena's dwindling fan support getting smaller and smaller. He's encouraging John to "Embrace the hate". Now the point of this all seems to be lost a bit. Does he want John to turn heel (into a bad guy)? Is this WWE's way of trying to use reverse psycology to try to get more fans to cheer Cena? I have no idea, but with Kane hurting Cena's buddy, Zack Ryder, Cena is looking for a fight! These two will collide on the undercard of the show, but with no stipulation tossed in to ensure chaos, I don't expect much.

My Prediction For The Winner: Kane (DQ)
If Cena doesn't win, it'll be because of a DQ, due to John "Embracing the hate". But with the match against The Rock around the corner Cena needs to get rid of this Kane stuff and focus on that. I will just go ahead and give Kane the nudge here, because I look for Cena to finally beat Kane and move on, if not on an episode of RAW, then at least at next month's Elimination Chamber show.

World Heavyweight Title/Triple Threat Steel Cage Match
Daniel Bryan(c) vs. Big Show vs. Mark Henry

Well, this is an interesting situation. When this mess started it was the friendly giant, Big Show against the then World Champion, Mark Henry. Bryan, had the Money in the Bank case and could cash in for his shot at the gold anytime he wanted. Show was fighting Henry for the title, but was encouraging his friend, Daniel, to cash in on Henry. And to his credit, there was a few ill attempts from Daniel to try to take the gold from Henry. So, when Daniel finally did cash in to win the belt, it was after Show had beat Henry for it! Since, Bryan has went from a cookie cutter face to a chicken (you know what) heel. Show is still a face, but Henry seems to be a tweener in it all. Oh, and did I mention Daniel's 80 pound girlfriend, AJ was recently ran over accidentally by the 500 pound Big Show? So, there are many elements in what might be the best story going on in WWE today. Since both monster have been unable to keep the sneaky Bryan in their grasps, Smackdown GM, Teddy Long has tossed him an impossible situation, a 3-way cage match with the two monsters.

My Prediction For The Winner: Daniel Bryan (Cage Escape)
When their seems to be no logical way for our heel champion to win, odds are he's winning. Let's break it down, both Henry and Show aren't at 100% in real life. The rumors have Big Show taking on Shaquille O'Neal at WrestleMania and their isn't anyway that will be for the title. Mark Henry is in a bad way health wise, so he won't be winning either. So, as the two big men do battle, look for the sneaky Bryan to scape the cage and retain the title.

WWE Title Match/RAW GM John Laurinaitis Is The Ref

CM Punk(c) vs. Dolph Zigger

Up until last week on RAW, it looked like their was no way Punk would be walking away from the rumble with the title. The odds were against him. Ziggler had beaten him for a few weeks in a row, in very shady fashion, but a win is a win. And to top it off, RAW GM and President of Talent Relations, John Laurinaitis had admitted that he planned to screw Punk out of the title! See, Dolph is really just a afterthought here. Punk has been going back and forth verbally with John and it had finally reached it's boiling point. While being an man on the outside looking in, it appeared that Ziggler would still be walking away the new WWE Champion due to John's stance on Punk. That all changed Monday when the C.O.O, Triple H, sent word that Laurinaitis was under review for how he had been running RAW. If Laurinaitis wants to remain RAW GM he HAS to call the match down the middle.

My Prediction For The Winner: CM Punk
Punk has lost and lost to Ziggler in the weeks leading into The Royal Rumble. So, in logical booking, Punk gets his win back here in one big swoop, probably beating the hell out of John Laurinaitis again in the process. This should close the chapter on this for Punk. Besides, the WWE Champion will have bigger fish to fry very very soon.

30-Man Royal Rumble Match

So, it's back to just 30 men after a year with 40 and I am perfectly OK with that. If you don't know how this works, let me break it down. All the wrestlers draw numbers going into the event. #1 and #2 start, then every two minutes another person enters based off the number they drew. You are eliminated when you are tossed over the top rope and both feet touch the floor. The last person standing when the dust settles gets a shot at their pick of a match for the WWE Title or the World Title in the main event of WrestleMania!

My Prediction For The Winner: Chris Jericho
This year when you take a look at every possible winner for the rumble, it's a two man coin toss. You have Randy Orton, who will be in his home town tonight. And then you have the returning Chris Jericho, who promises that tonight is the start of the end of the world for the WWE. Either way you slice it, I think we have Orton vs. Bryan and Jericho vs. Punk at Mania for the top two belts. And I think Orton comes close, but falls short here.

The Prologue
If you asked me to compile a list of films that I was most looking forward to in 2012, the chances of Astron-6's Father's Day would probably have been #1. Released on a very limited theater run under the Troma banner, Father's Day is perhaps the best thing to come from Toma in years (perhaps ever). And in time, it could probably rival The Toxic Avenger, or even top it in popularity. Astron-6 is a group of filmmakers that I recently got to know due to a DVD release that compiled all their short films. What I saw on that DVD set was remarkable and extremely clever in it's tongue and cheek nature. I had already been looking forward to Father's Day due to it's trailer, but after seeing the Astron-6 compilation, I knew it was a must see film that could very well be THE best thing to come out in 2012. Having now seen it, I can honestly say it doesn't disappoint at all.

The Movie
Ahab, a man obsessed with exacting a brutal, violent revenge on the man who murdered his dad, joins John, an eager priest, and Twink, a hot-headed street hustler, on an epic quest to find and defeat this mythical monster known as Chris Fuchman AKA The Father's Day Killer. What follows is one of the wildest rides you can find on film this year. Packed full of gore, nudity, and offensive yet hilarious content, Father's Day is a early frontrunner for best film of 2012.

To try to put into words the madness that is Astron-6's Father's Day isn't at all easy. It's rude, it's offensive, and it's probably the film with the biggest set of balls I've seen in a while. I can respect the hell out of a movie that pushes the envelope. And when all is said and done, it's possible that Father's Day doesn't just push it, it crumples it up and tosses it away. What follows is a true modern day Grindhouse film, that both honors and pays tribute to such films as, Thriller, but it also packs a modern day punch that sticks with you, pulls you in, and makes it so memorable that it'll stick with you long after viewing it for the first time. In a nutshell, it's everything I had hoped it would be and more.

Some folks could be slightly turned off a bit by the over the top nature of the film. One minute you're seeing a massacre take place at a strip club and the next you're seeing people tripping out on poison berries. Not that you should have expected anything less from a film about a madman that stalks, kills, and rapes fathers. But I do think their are a few brief moments when the joking nature of the script could catch a viewer off guard a bit. But it's best to keep in mind that as wild and brutal as things get at times in this film, I do believe it's still a bit of a parody and a satire at heart. Yet, as the story takes some very weird and disturbing twists and turns that take you from the realistic plot to a bit of a spiritual one, I can't help but think what you get is pure genius. As goofy as some characters can be, you still like them. And the story keeps you tuned in no matter how far out of left field plot turns seem to come.

At the end of the day, I didn't like some of the more blasphemous spots in the film. Things do get REALLY weird when the film hits it's home stretch. Yet, I can't find it in me to hate on those things that much when I think about the film as a whole. And I also can't deny that what I saw, as crazy as it was, was perhaps one of the best things to hit film in years. Father's Day shows that not all hope is lost when it comes to films in general. In a current world packed full of remakes, Astron-6 could be the saving grace for fans of originality and film. Things get taken on a whole other level with Father's Day. And it's a level that rises above about 99% of everything else that is being released to theater and DVD. When Father's Day wraps up on the screen, you may be shocked and a little disgusted, but you'll also KNOW you just saw something awesome.

The Conclusion
Oh.My.Goodness! It's rare to find a film that comes with soo much hype that doesn't disappoint, but Father's Day does NOT disappoint. It may just be January, but we've probably seen the best film of 2012 already. Things get a little silly, things get a little offensive, but you can not discount or discredit the quality you get with this movie. I'm not sure when Father's Day will hit DVD or Blu-ray, but you can count me in on picking up a copy the very first day. I also must highly recommend that you go out and see this yourself before then if it comes to your area.

Acid Head: The Buzzard Nuts County Slaughter - coming your way soon!

The latest movie from Tony 'Tex' Watt "Acid Head: The Buzzard Nuts County Slaughter" is finding it's way to availability in the very near future, Watt's recent work as a director includes "Vixen Highway 2006" and "Frankenpimp". The movie features the director Tony 'Tex' Watt himself, and his preferred heroin and frequent workpartner Vivita playing the lead as Pheromone Labonza and Acid Head. Others starring are Lewis Mercer, Lana Tailor, Elvin Domenic, Paul Nicholls, Adam Schickedanz and many others, and in a cunning cameo as the sneaky reporter Biff Bangs, the only European actor in the film; Kim Sønderholm.

On using the latter, director Tony 'Tex' Watt said: "When our movie about a killer goth-girl needed a main greek chorus-type performer [the character who tells the viewer what is going on], to embody the form of news anchor: Biff Bangs... I, as the Writer/Director needed an internationally appealing actor who was both authoritative and able to carry some of the comedic hyperbole, with dry humor [As Sean Connery did in the early 007 movies]. Versatile actor/filmmaker Kim Sønderholm came to mind as the first choice, as I admired his acting prowess in such films as "Craig", "Tour de Force", "Bleed with Me"; as well as his comedic turn in the 2011 TV series "Goodbye Light". Sønderholm embodied to myself, a brilliant character actor, who was very hard working and tenacious. Working with him, showed me that this charismatic and popular performer was exactly what I perceived, as well as being very humorous and humble."

Idea for the film originally came in 2009, when Award winning Canadian horror author and TV host (Flatline, Post-Mortem, Nightmare in Canada: Canadian Horror on Film) Edo van Belkom's son Luke started filming "Acid Head: The High School Horror" based on a loose script plot the young van Belkom co-wrote with actor/filmmaker Tony 'Tex' Watt. The script's projected budget was originally too high; so Watt decided to shoot an improvised sequel, first, based on situations deriving from his previous script.

Well, Gang, this is it! This is the BIG one! The season 10 finale of Chikara and it comes to us in the form of their very fist Internet pay-per-view, High Noon! Tonight from the old school ECW arena in Philadelphia, Chikara will crown their very first Grand Champion when Mike Quackenbush takes on Eddie Kingston as the 12 Large Summit Tournament comes to a grand end! Also, every story that has been built up in Chikara this past season comes to their big blow off as well!

Jigsaw

vs.

El Generico

This was a match that was streamed for free live before the event started, but is also available as a bonus feature on the DVD set of the show. Here was have Chikara year 1 vet, Jigsaw, doing battle with the Generic Luchadore, El Generico! Generico also works for Ring of Honor and Pro Wrestling Gorilla, you may have seen him there. Both these guys are babyfaces (good guys), so we have a good, clean, and fast paced match on our hands. And as always the Chikara fans are reacting to everything! As the match goes back and forth, then settles in with Jigsaw in control, the fans shock everyone by actually cheering for Generico over their homegrown, Jogsaw! None the less, the action stays in high speed with dives, top rope action, the whole nine yards, as nobody seems to get real control. The ending however comes when Jigsaw finishes off Generico with a Double Stomp from the top @ 7:58! I was a little shocked to see Generico go down that quick and that easy, but the match did it's job.
WINNER: JIGSAW (pin)

And now we start the main portion of the show! A cool movie-like opening roles welcoming us into the event. We also have an original song by the one and only Stan Bush! That's how to open a show in proper fashion!

The Colony: (Fire Ant & Soldier Ant)

vs.

The Young Bucks: (Nick Jackson & Matt Jackson)

The Colony are former Chikara Campeonatos de Parejas (tag team champions) and The Young Bucks, who are lead to the ring by Marty Jannetty, are former PWG tag team champions! Making matters more interesting, both teams are about a win away from getting the proper points needed to challenge F.I.S.T. for the Chikara Campeonatos de Parejas! A little comedy to start as The Bucks go from being cheered to getting really heelish really quick! After our comedy passes we are treated to some of the tag action that Chikara is known for! The lucha rules are in full effect as pretty soon bodies are flying around everywhere! The Young Bucks do take control early on with their amazing high flying offense! In one cool spot, we see The Bucks just about do our Ant friends in with a Spiked Tombstone!! Finally, The Colony is able to fight back and get back in the game with their double teams maneuvers! Things do start looking bleak as Solider Ant just about gets caught with Matt and Nick's More Bang For Your Buck! But luckily for him, Soldier Ant avoids More Bang For Your Buck, catches Matt with a Folding Press and scores the win @ 13:32. With this win, The Colony can now challenge F.I.S.T. for the Campeonatos de Parejas

Sara Del Rey

vs.

Jakob Hammermeier

Jakob, is one of the lasting members of the evil BDK group. Sara is a now former member and total bad arse! As I noted in my review of the last show, you just can't count Sara out, even when she's facing men. The crowd loves Sara here and going by their reaction, they seem pretty sure that Sara will "kill" Jakob here in a matter of minutes. That's more or less what we actually get. Sara goes to town on Jakob and only really loses control for a few moments when Hammermeier uses his trademark necktie to choke Sara! This doesn't last however. And the next thing you know, we have Sara unleashing an onslaught of kicks and suplexes on Jakob! Jakob shows a little resilience, but that's cut off really quick when Sara finishes him off with The Royal Butterfly @ 5:21. More or less an extended squash for Sara, but it should be the start of bigger and better things for her in Chikara.
WINNER: SARA DEL REY (pin)

We now are joined by the former Campeonatos de Parejas, The Osirian Portal, Amasis and Ophidian. Due to the injury of Amasis, Ophidian has been going at it alone and it's here that they will address the issue. The news however doesn't seem to be good as Amasis quickly thanks the crowd and informs everyone that he will not be returning to the ring. Ophidian seems speechless to this, so Amasis just suggest they leave things on a good note and they proceed to do some of their trademark dancing, Kid-n-Play dancing to be exact. All seems very heartfelt and touching until out of nowhere, OPHIDIAN SPITS SOMETHING IN THE EYES OF AMASIS!!!?? Ophidian beats the holy crap out of his partner and connects with a very nasty kick to Amasis' hurt back! The Chikara refs are here and they are trying to break this up, but it doesn't end until after Ophidian has already ripped the mask off the fact of Amasis, which is the ultimate show of disrespect! Ophidian now makes his way back to the back, but not before taking the microphone and announcing that the problem has been solved! BIG BIG segment here.

We now are treated to a cool video package showing us the history between Green Ant and Tursas. Among the highlights of this is the footage of Green Ant's "Flex Express" which is a total parody of old school WWF, Lex Express! And did I mention that this is approved by Lex Luger himself? Cool stuff here, showing just what a big deal this next match is.

Green Ant

vs.

Tursas

Green Ant seems to be the current IT guy in Chikara. If things stay going how they are currently going, he could very well be THE man..or THE Ant in the company soon. Tursas is a big brute from The BDK. This has been going on for a long time now, with wins being exchanged in different matches, both single and tag. But this match here at High Noon will be the big finale to this on going feud. Classic "small guy vs. big guy" style match here as Green Ant tries and tries but can't seem to connect with anything that can keep the big man down for a count of 3! Tursas fires back on Green Ant with some powerful movies and some hard impact stuff, but he can't keep the Ant down either! One toss from Tursas doesn't go as planed as Green Ant lands on his feet and then goes to work on the big man's legs/knees! In a pure form of classic psychology, Green Ant decides that if he can't pin the big man he will just settle for pounding a body part until this giant of a man is at the point of submission. After a few failed attempts, Green Ant at last does do just that, locking on a modified version of The Chikara Special for the submission win @ 12:27 They've had better matches, but this was just fine and dandy here. Perfect way to finally close the Green Ant/Tursas story.

We go to another cool video package, this time for Colt Cabana and Archibald Peck. As the story goes, Eddie Kingston beat Peck by using his finisher, The Backfist to the Future. Peck says that the shot actually sent him to the future where he found an almanac telling him the results for every Chikara event to come. He says that's how he knew Colt Cabana would be his mystery opponent at a past Chikara show, a match that Peck won. Since, Peck has brought out Colt Cabunny, a giant bunny with Colt as his name sake! All was well at first, but we have now learned that Peck has been very mean to the bunny, doing unthinkable things to him! Colt Cabana knows this and will no longer stand for it! Now he does battle with Peck once again, in a fight to end all of this once and for all!

Archibald Peck (w.Veronica & Colt Cabunny)

If you want to see a comedy wrestling match done right, then look for a match with these two right here. Peck tries and tries to get the jump on Colt early, but nothing at all works. You average silliness goes into effect with Colt getting the best of Archie over and over again. Finally, with underhanded ways, Peck does take control of the match, but still can't put the much larger Cabana away! During the ending of the match, Archie can't seem to get that darn bunny to do his evil work for him, so it up to Veronica to try to do something! She distracts the ref and tosses her baton into the ring! Only it doesn't go to Archie, it ends up in the furry hands of Colt Cabunny! Finally, it's up for the bunny to take a stand! Does he do the right or the wrong thing?? He does the right thing! He clocks Pecks with the baton and Colt scores the pin @ 11:34! And all is right with the Chikara world as Colt Cabana and Colt Cabunny dance together in the ring!

Gregory Iron

vs.

Icarus

Iron is known as the handicapped hero, due to him beating the odds and wrestling to spite having cerebral palsy. Icarus, who is a part of F.I.S.T. and has the world's worst back tattoo, has been going on and on about how Iron is faking his illness. Thus, all that has lead to this! And right from the start we have our typical stuff with Icarus teasing removing his jacket and the crowd begging him not to, due to his tattoo. Finally we have the match going and Icarus turns into a big bully, but still can't keep Iron down, who comes back with offense of his on. At a few points they really work in Iron's cerebral palsy by saying he might have been able to keep Icarus down had he not had that and could perhaps more properly hook the leg, One big heating getting portion of the match shows Icarus try to win by count-out, only for Iron to barely make it back inside the ring by the count of 18 (they have a 20 count in Chikara). Iron fights back and shows heart, he even locks on the Cripple Crossface but Icarus gets away. Sadly, this story doesn't have a happy ending as Icarus manages to sneak in a low blow away from the red and nail Iron with the Blu-ray for the win @ 12:19
WINNER: ICARUS (pin)

After the match, Icarus keeps the assault on Iron! That is until Icarus' old tag team partner, Gran Akuma shows up for the save! Icarus tries to talk his way out of trouble, as Iron makes his way back to his feet. Akuma goes for a jumping kick to Icarus, but Icarus ducks and the kick connects with Iron! Doh!!!! Icarus splits, as Akuma gets help out for Iron. Not a good night for our Handicapped Hero.

Another great video package to the tune of Kanye West's Blame Game shows us the history of UltraMantis Black and The BDK. This all leads to a no DQ match tonight between Mantis & Hallowicked against Ares and Tim Donst with a LOT on the line. We also have a promo from Donst and Ares as subtle issues seems to be in the air between the two!

No Disqualification- If UltraMantis Black loses, he must unmask. If Hallowicked loses, he must unmask. If Tim Donst loses, he will have his head shaved. If Ares loses, he must forfeit the Eye of Tyr to UltraMantis Black

And all heck breaks loose early in this one! And it's really only fitting that a wild brawl like this take place in the same arena that birthed ECW. It may hardly happen in Chikara, but when it does go to the extreme in Chikara, it's done in a very fun fashion! Since BDK attacked our heroes during their entrance, BDK takes control early on. We have these teams paired off with Ares/Mantis & Donst/Hallowicked, which is expected. Chairs come into play and the fans seem to love it as the good guy eventually take control. Of course this brings out BDK's Jakob Hammermeier who helps BDK until Mantis' old buddy, Crossbones pops up and clears out the annoying Hammermeier!! The battle wages on back and forth, but takes a very interesting twist at the end when Donst actually leaves Ares hanging and alone?? This allows Mantis to break out the Cosmic Disaster on Ares through a chair for the win @ 12:47!! This now once again gives UltraMantis Black the Eye of Tyr. And while it's pure speculation on my part, I'd assume this just about puts the nail in the coffin of BDK.
WINNERS: THE SPECTRAL ENVOY (pin)

After ten years, Chikara finally decided to crown it's champion, it's Grand Champion! A video package shows us this, and it's one of the best hype video I can remember an indie organization having. When it came time to crown a champion, Chikara named the tournament The 12 Large Submit. It got it's name from the late Larry Sweeney, who was one of the most charismatic men to come along in wrestling in a long time. Once Block A and Block B were decided in the tournament, we were left with two men. One being the founder of Chikara, "Lightning" Mike Quackenbush. And the other being a man Quack trained and the best friend of Sweeney, Eddie Kingston. The built for this match has been epic and the video we see ends with a promo from Kingston that is just so powerful you have to see it to give it justice. He says what he does tonight will make right every bad thing he has ever done. And it's such a heartfelt promo from Eddie, that you can't help but get a little watery eye'd while hearing it.

Eddie Kingston (w.Tommy Dreamer)

Chikara Grand Championship

Quack is out with his partner Jigsaw as Eddie comes to the ring with his hero and hardcore legend, Tommy Dreamer. Both are just here for support, so don't look for them to get involved in any kind of way. Eddie comes into the match with a limp from knee damage that he has gotten from the months of the tournament. He might as well of had a giant arrow pointing to it saying "hit here", because Quack goes right to work on that bum knee and when a man who is a master of 1,000 holds goes to work on a body part, you better believe that body part is going to go through the wringer. The fans are clearly backing Eddie here due to the overall powerful story of the match and it looks to be getting to Quack, which is something you don't see much from Mike. Another thing that was rare from Quack was the thumb in the eye he gave Eddie to counter one of Kingston's comebacks. As if you didn't realize the epic nature of this match already, as it goes along everyone on the Chikara roster, as well as stars from the past are out and gathering around the ring to watch this epic encounter. Eddie keeps trying to get something going and Mike keeps cutting him off at the knee throughout the match! Finally, they end up trading blows and that's always going to end up with Kingston coming out on top! This slides into Eddie unleashing a series of suplexes and lariots to Quack! Mike still just won't stay down, so Eddie connects with not one but TWO Backfist To The Future and that keeps Mike down and crowd the 1st champion @ 17:52! This is just an environment you have to see to appreciate, guys. When you have a wrestling match with this type of build, the right story, and the right crowd, you just can't top the overall feeling.
WINNER: EDDIE KINGSTON (pin)

The emotion of the match is raised up even greater after the match as Eddie is presented the title from Sweeney's brother and close friend. All of the roster seem to be just as emotional as Eddie himself as this moving moment does do a great job of bringing a tear to your eye. Eddie wraps this up and the show up, by taking the microphone and putting the company over. All this comes together closing Season 10 of Chikara is grand fashion. And it's a must watch!

After the DVD credits we see Hallowicked holding Sinn “Kizarny” Bodhi so he can face UltraMantis Black. Black is here to make good on his promise of giving Sinn the Eye of Tyr. A promise Mantis had first made when he hired Bodhi to bring forth the Batiri, only to have Sinn use the Batiri against Mantis. But hey, Mantis is a man of his word after all, right? Kizarny says now that he has the Eye of Tyr, he can be done with Chikara. He them leaves as we now see that Mantis gave him a fake and still posses the REAL Eye of Tyr. How will this impact Chikara heading into season 11? We shall have to wait and see.

Monster in the Closet is a spoof of horror/monster films. After several people and a dog are found dead in their closets a "mild-mannered" reporter, a college professor, her son and a befuddled professor band together to uncover the mystery but not without involving the U.S. Army and mass panic. The movie then goes into wink wink territory when we soon learn that our monster gets it's power from the closet. And soon it finds our male lead and tries to take it back inside the closet with him!..See the metaphor??

Well, we have a Troma film from the 80s here. That in it's self should tell you all you need to know right there. The film is filled with goofy jokes, characters, and moments. And while it's good for a laugh or two in spots, it's not anything that you will want to send a letter home to momma about. The film is never serious (and it wasn't meant to be) as it goes along it's way. And we have a series of people get offed by a strange monster in a closet and while it makes you wait for a good look at the monster, the monster does a least look soo bad it's memorable. So if you are a big fan of that sorta campy stuff you shouldn't take too big of an issue with the film overall.

The film does have some very annoying moments. There's a sound used to bring out the monster that is totally annoying and overused. Some of the characters are like the human version of nails on chalkboard. But then at the same time, we do have a few fun moments and our male and female lead aren't that bad in a silly kind of way. There's a kid named the professor that is a fun character too. But the monster and all his ridiculousness is probably the star of the show overall, as it should be. The film is harmless when you take all things into consideration, it is somewhat fun, but I wouldn't go into watching it looking for anything that you will remember much about a few days after seeing it.

As part of the "Re-booking of Nitro 2001" segment from the Extreme Odd Couple Podcast, this is my entry with the talent roster both, Steve Corino and I drafted. To listen to the segment, head to http://www.xocpodcast.com/ Episode #11.

Keep in mind, the scenario is - WCW has nothing left, ECW is about to shut down and the Independant talent was very strong. Corino and I are given the abilty to "raid" both rosters and we split via Nitro and Thunder. Corino has already released his Thunder. This would be the kick off show for Nitro.

Nitro

(Cold open) - Mike Tennay is in the ring, Welcomes everyone to the new Monday Night Nitro. While some things change, some things remain the same. On Tonight's show, WCW will crown a new Heavyweight Champion – the Championship board of directors has announced the two contenders are Diamond Dallas Page vs Booker T. That match will be tonights main event.

At this time, I would like to introduce a true Legend in WCW, a man who has a long history in this great sport. Terry Funk - Terry Funk comes out in a suit, saying how he’s happy to be home in WCW. He feels that the future is bright. This is where he belongs…He spent his last few years kissing ass up in New York but has also been helping some young, hungry hard working wrestlers in Philadelphia…that believed in their hearts that they had what it takes to become the best. (cut off)

(Cue Hennings music) Curt Henning with Mike Sanders

Curt Henning – saying that what Terry was doing in Philadelphia was far from wrestling…it was an embarrassment. Curt Henning made Professional Wrestling the perfect sport, while Terry Funk was on garbage duty. He then tells Terry…go back to the bingo hall…and retire…Funk calls Henning a Yellow Bellied Egg sucking dog….Mike Sanders sneak attacks Funk.

(Cue Music) “Man in a box” hits…here comes Tommy Dreamer running out …all 4 are fighting, Funk on Henning…but it separates into Sanders vs Dreamer…bell rings..we are underway.

Dreamer vs Sanders – (9 minutes) lots of brawling, back and forth..and weapons. Let Sanders establish he blongs and can hang with some extreme spots. Dreamer hits his “Dreamer-flow” (with the hopes that Raven would return sometime down the line) DDT, Ref counts, 1,2…Henning pulls ref out of the ring…back to 4 way brawl. Sanders and Dreamer are both bleeding…Funk pulls out a plastic bag…tries to put it over the head of Henning…Heels out of the ring…Dreamer and Funk in the ring…they hug.

Commercial break

Opening shot at someone’s legs (pans over to the duffle bag), with a duffle bag next to them…there is a mask on top. You hear, in a Mexican dialect “Time to return to my roots”…the hand grabs the mask…cut to ring.

(Camera on Announcers table) Big Sal E Graziano and Tennay are the broadcast team – Mike Tennay says that mask looks familiar. Big Sal says this music sounds familiar.

Southern Comfort vs. Whipwreck & tajiri w/ James Mitchell

(10 minutes)– Chris Hamrick & Tracy Smoothers are working their way down to the ring. Their opponents – Mikey Whipwreck vs Tajiri w/James Mitchell

Smoothers and Hamrick do chicken shit heel spots. Tajiri and Whipwreck are playing to the crowd. Hamrick does his through the 2nd rope spot. Tajiri hits the tarantula, hand spring back elbow, mist, Brainbuster on Hamrick.

Back stage, sit down interview with DDP – Page discusses what the WCW title would mean to him, very humble. Getting a late start, he loves WCW and would work hard for the people. Self high 5

Homicide vs Super crazy (6 mins)– this is early Homicide with brawling vs high flying Super crazy. Super Crazy over. After the match…Rey Mysterio (Now wearing Mask) music hits…Super Crazy is in the ring. Mysterio says he respects Super Crazy, next week…he would like to face him in a for an entry position in the Junior heavyweight championship fatal 4 way match in 3 weeks. Crazy accepts….Sal and Tennay say in 3 weeks..we will be crowning a new Junior Heavyweight, with a Fatal 4 way match….winner takes all

Lance Storm vs Christopher Daniels (20 minutes)– the announcers talk about how both are the future of this sport. Text book wrestling clinic. Back and forth match up. 20 minute draw. They say, next week…they want to go again…

Backstage sit down interview with Booker T – says, he is owed the title. He’s done his time…he has been champion before…he will be again.

The announcers say Next Week – Dreamer & Funk vs Henning & Sanders…no DQ….it will not be for the faint of heart. Big Sal says he was never a fan of Dreamer, maybe it's time for the fans to accept that Extreme is dead.

Tag Match (12 minutes)– York & Matthews vs. Shannon Moore & Shane Helms w/Jamie Noble – Moore & Helms are the heels. York & Matthews play to the crowd. Both teams are strong tag teams, utilizing tag team style moves. Helms distracts the ref, Knoble passes a chain to Moore…Moore over on York. Sal and Tennay talk about how young the tag team division is…but also how well they work well together.

Main Event (18 minutes)– Booker T vs. Diamond Dallas Page

Booker out first….Self high 5 hits DDP out…this match could determine the future of WCW.

DDP takes the early advantage. DDP teases for the Diamond Cutter several times, Booker is too smart. Booker cuts off with a reversal into the corner…Booker T is working the back of DDP. Booker T feels the title within his grasp…Booker heads to the top rope for his Ghetto Blaster…DDP stumbles into ropes..nuts Booker…DDP goes for the superplex…pushed off…Booker T off the top rope…DDP with a diamond cutter on Booker….1,2, Booker T gets his foot on the bottom rope..ref doesn’t see it..3. Celebration ensues…crowd goes crazy…

Sal points out the foot on the rope…we’ll see you next week.

The Prologue
I few years ago I came down with a very nasty bug/virus. I ended up in E.R. thinking I was having a stroke (what can I say, I panic!) but it turned out to be a combination of a stomach bug, a migraine, and my hand falling asleep all at once. Long story short, they put me on some nice meds and while I was in bed later on half asleep and half out of it, 1988's The Blob came on TV. And from what I recall of it, it was awesome! I kept meaning to buy it and revisit it and I have no idea why it took so long for me to actually do it. But I did buy it and I'm going to review it here. So, now that I'm not jacked up on anything besides Dr.Pepper, does the film still seem as awesome? Well, read and find out!

The Movie
This is the remake of the 1958 horror sci-fi about a deadly blob from another planet which consumes everyone in its path. Teenagers try in vein to warn the townsfolk, who refuse to take them seriously. Soon the military come into play, and as we all know that never ends well. When all is said and done, can our youngsters break free of the military goons, convince the town folk of what's really going on, and save the day? I am afraid I can't just tell you because that would take the fun out of it!

One cool thing you'll notice here is we have the 1988 Shawnee Smith as our female lead character, Meg. You kids might remember her more recently from the SAW franchise, but let me just tell you that she was a nice little number back in the day. Not to mention her character is a cheerleader and has the town jock as well as the town outcast both in her company. And that right there is an interesting dynamic set with the plot upfront. We have a certain female lead, but not one but TWO guys who appear to be the male lead. That's great storytelling right there. It also makes you care what happens to them.

On that same note, a lot of these characters are very well written. We spent just enough time with them, they have the right casting, and it invents a clever situation where you never know just who will go. And as noted, it actually matters when one does bite the dust! This was rare for the 80s and it's nearly unheard of today. This film is just soo well written and presented, I still can't believe it didn't do any better than it did when it came out. It's just an all around fun movie that keeps you interesting. And to make matters even better, that's not even the best part of the film.

This film put on display some of the best gore and effects that you will ever see on film, not just the 80s but ever. It's not CGI, it's the natural stuff too. Sure, the Blob it's self isn't what you would call "natural" but what that thing does to people is just epic in it's presentation. It also helps with leaving a lasting effect that was everything I remembered it being and then some. The film's only fault is it slightly drags a bit before heading into the third act, but it never truly gets boring. Overall, it's a fun and corny slice of the 80s. And when I say corny, trust me when I say that I mean that in the nicest and best way possible. They just don't make a lot of stuff like this anymore and that's just a shame.

The Conclusion
For what it's worth, I think The Blob is among the best in horror films of the 80s. It's fun, it's well written, and it has some very awesome effects. When you get the combo of all of those things right, then you usually end up with a real winner. It's a proven format that works and a lot of today's movies could learn a lot from The Blob.

The demon clown Killjoy is resurrected once again, but this time he is not given the name of his victim and is trapped in his realm. Using a magic mirror he lures four unsuspecting college students into his realm where he can have his macabre fun! A mysterious man returns and we finally discover who Killjoy's true target is!

The first two Killjoy movies were more of an urban based affair. This time around Trent Haaga (writer of Deadgirl) puts on the paint for the second time, and it looks like we are going for a more based presentation with our excitement taking place from inside the house one of our characters is house-sitting and from inside the mirror. Also, Killjoy has some clown friends along for the ride with him. That adds more to the story, not much, but more none the less. I will admit that I've always liked Haaga under the paint more than the original Killjoy from the original movie. He seems to not only "get it", but he makes the character a lot more fun. I'd probably say his performance is the highlight of this one here. Mainly due to the fact that the first portion of the film drags on for a bit.

But once we get to the homestretch of the movie, business does pickup well enough. Heads fly off, people are eaten, and the plot has a pretty neat little twist if you've watched the other films before this one. Of course, the sad part of things here is we have characters that aren't that interesting, but I suppose it's a bit of a give and take. The film might not give you anyone to cheer for, but it does give you some comedy and Killjoy. more or less. is pretty funny as we get into the thick of things. I'd have liked a little more variety in things here. Perhaps more locations and the such, but what we got isn't terrible. I think fans of Killjoy might even be well satisfied overall.

You All Should Listen To The Horror 101 Podcast

I don't usually go out of my way to sing praises of other people, but I do from time to time make an exception to the rule. Especially if I feel it's well deserved. And while I realize horror is loaded with a million different podcast shows from a million different people, I really believe if you are not checking out Cash Wampum and his Horror 101 Podcast, that you should really fix that by doing so.

Cash is a Canadian who loves horror. And his shows aren't your typical show where he and someone else go over movies and then give an approval or a score to the film after. He simply talks about horror with his friends and it's very interesting conversations. It's always fun to hear what another person thinks about a certain movie and Cash tells us what he thinks and shares very interesting stories regarding the subject matter as well. On his very first show (there are only 5 of them at the moment), he told the story of how he became a horror fan. And it was a cool little story and very interesting, like everything else he's been talking about on his show. His web-site, Horror101.ca, also features videos and other reviews that are all worth taking a look at if you have a free moment, I'm sure you will be happy you did.

In the horror community, one thing that just annoys me is when you have people who go out of their way to prove to the world how smart on horror that they are. They constantly try to brag or impress on every social network available and there's really no call for it. Cash Wampum is a horror fan. A real horror fan, the kind that doesn't have to go out of his way to prove it. I think if more horror writers and podcasters were like him this little "horror community" would be a much better place. So, once again I will say, if you want to listen to a good horror podcast from a good dude, check out Cash Wampum and his Horror 101 Podcast.

The Prologue
If you are going to name a film, Dear God No!, you gotta make sure it's some pretty extreme stuff. And I do believe the word extreme is a perfect word to use when talking about, Dear God No!. A mix of a 70's blood soaked exploitation films and a Troma style film, this film if nothing else packs a hell of a punch. It's an attack on your moral sense in a lot of ways, because while some stuff is comedic, it's also very in your face and rough. So, if you have a hard time watching some things, you might want to check your emotions and your morals at the door when you watch this kick-ass new film. A film that before it ends, might just have you shouting "Dear God No!".

The Movie
Outlaw motorcycle gang The Impalers tri-state rape and murder spree ended in a bloody massacre with rival club Satan's Own. The surviving members sought refuge in a secluded cabin deep in the North Georgia mountains. What first must of seemed like easy prey for a home invasion, became a living nightmare of depravity and violence. A young innocent girl being held captive may hold the key to the twisted secrets locked in the basement and the killing machine feasting on human flesh in the forest outside.

Well my Goodness! This one is something else, let me just tell you that. Murder, rape, blood, and weird creatures is what makes up this bad boy. And it all comes to you in the form of an old grindhouse style that mimics the 70's feel and look perfectly. I think if someone watching didn't know better before hand any different, that they might actually believe it was made in the 70's. The story is pretty basic, as we basically just have a gang raising hell and even going against their own organization in an odd attempt to be "free". They also have this thing were they kill anyone who happens to see them because they simply can't be any witnesses. It's good fun, not clean fun by any means, but fun none the less.

Of course things do get a little complex when our gang holds up a group of people (one being a "doctor") in a house near the end of the film. And it's around the hour mark of the film when all hell does indeed break loose, causing an already over the top and bloody film to go into overdrive. Things happen in this portion of the film that is even more brutal to watch and upsetting to see than the already unsettling things that take place beforehand. I won't go into details and spoil anything, but lets just say it won't be for anyone with a weak heart or stomach. It's a really indie film to the core, and it's a really bold and disturbing one as well. It also adds in some very odd bits of comedy that I'm sure some will appreciate.

Of course the film isn't without flaw. The acting in spots is a little questionable. There is also some bad dialogue in places as well. Some stuff going on and being said at different times may trigger a groan or an eye-roll at times, but I think the positives outshine the negatives overall when it comes to this one. It's got an interesting plot that goes from being one thing before it turns into something else in the third act. There's cheap gore, but really good gore. I'd take some watery blood over CG blood any day of the week for the record. We have things that are disturbing in this film, but it's really good overall and any fan of grindhouse stuff or movies from the 70's should get a kick out of this.

The Conclusion
There are shades of Hobo With a Shotgun in this (the post is done by Hobo with a Shotgun poster artist, Tom Hodges), and anyone who's a fan of it should enjoy this movie in a lot of ways. If you don't like indie films you might not like this, but if you do, then I think you will like this one even better. So it's a hard one on the morals, but it's fully entertaining and soaked with blood. So keep and eye out on this one, it's a lot of fun. And I expect nothing but great things down the road from director, James Bickert.

War of the Worlds...For Real?

My friends, we live in some strange times. Times so strange, that they are at times very horrific and generally freaky. Seeing as how I'm a couple weeks away from the age of 29, I'm pretty convinced that I'm an old man and that I have seen everything. Now, this being the year 2012, we have a whole heck of a lot of people who are sure based on the Mayan calender that the world will end this year one way or another. I'm not so sure about that myself, but I will still admit it's all a bit freaky. But what would do us in if this was true? Nuclear war? Earthquakes? The 2nd Coming? A mix of all of these things at once? Or, how about Aliens? Yes, I said Aliens.

I've always been very fascinated with the subject of aliens. Not just aliens, but Bigfoot, Loch Ness, the whole nine yards. I actually considered making a blog about that sorta stuff before I settled for this one you are reading here. I bring this all up due to a video I saw being passed around by a few of my friends on Facebook tonight. A video that was uploaded to youtube April of last year. It's got a giant hit count, so as to why I'm just now seeing it, I have no clue. If you were like me and behind on this one, here it is...

Pretty freaky stuff isn't it? I've seen comment after comment, some by friends of mine, connecting this sorta thing to the 2012 end of Mayan Calender. They all seem to note the recent wave of this sorta thing, saying that the fact that it's happening all at one, now isn't a coincidence. Could they be on to something? Maybe..but probably not. Still, I can't help but get a kick and get a bit of a chill from stuff like this. I use to get that same feeling from horror movies when I was a kid. Now days that never happens, so this sorta weird stuff is a welcome change to me. As long as nothing REAL comes from it of course.

We are here for some Chikara! As they come to us on this day from North Carolina. Which is an area rich with a lot of classic wrestling history. I'm sure they had never seen anything like this, seeing as how Chikara isn't as much a tradition wrestling company, as much as it is a different and fun wrestling company. We go into this event with the first Chikara IPP (Internet Pay-Per-View) "High Noon" on the horizon, with the 12 Large Summit tournament to crown the first ever Chikara Grand Champion well underway. Once this night is over, we should be getting a very good look at who will be doing battle for that Championship at High Noon.

Jigsaw

vs.

Obariyon (w.Kodama)

Jigsaw is coming off dropping the Camepones De Parejas (tag team championship) with Mike Quackenbush. Obariyon is part of the evil trio known as The Batiri and it just so happens his regular partner, Kodama, is outside the ring with him. I expected a more comedic opener, but instead we get a more straight match and that's OK with me. Both guys go back and forth with Jigsaw showing his skills off here while trying to tend with the extra man outside the ring. Obariyon brought the hard hitting stuff while Jigsaw faught back with his high flying movies. And on a good note, we seem to have a fun loving crowd tonight that's right along with it. The ending came when Jigsaw nails his top rope double stomp for the win @ 9:44. Fun opener!

Icarus

12 Large: Summit Tournament Match (Block A)

The 12 Large is a round robin style event and the points are very important. Both men have been in Chikara since day one, with Hallowicked being the very first Young Lions Cup winner and former Campeonatos de Parejas champion with Delirious. Icarus, who is a member of the evil group F.I.S.T. (Friends In similar Tights), on the other hand, is also a former Campeonatos de Parejas champion with Gran Akuma and may very well have the world's worst back tattoo ever. The crowd keeps reminding Icarus of this fact as this plays a big part in the opening of the match. By the way, did I mention these two use to be a tag team during the start of Chikara in 2002? So, comedy is heavily inserted into the start with Hallowicked trying to cover up the terrible Icarus tattoo. The crowd loves this and rightfully so. Finally it turns into a more technical affair and things get taken into a pretty good pace that lasts for the remainder of the match. Sadly, the crowd has to see the fan favorite, Hallowicked, eat the pin as Icarus finishes him off with the Blu-Ray (It's better than the DVD) @ 15:16
WINNER: ICARUS (pin)

After the match, Icarus takes the microphone to talk some trash. And I want to point out that if nothing else Icarus knows how to get the fans to despise him, which is a great thing. He runs down Gregory Iron, who isn't even there tonight, accusing him of faking his Cerebal Palsy (Ouch!). Icarus goes on to say that at Chikara's High Noon he will prove that Iron is a fake! Great build up for that event here.

We now go to a short promo from female wrestler, Jessi McKay! She hasn't been in Chikara in three years, but she's back tonight to prove how much she's grown since. She is set to face Kana. Who many consider to be the best female wrestler in the world right now.

Kana

Jessie McKay is a very tall lady from Australia who is known today for being a regular on the SHIMMER roster, which is an all female wrestling company. Kana on the other hand is one of Japan's best and the current SMASH Divas Champion. If you have only seen female wrestling from WWE or TNA you would be in for a bit of a treat with this. It's nothing like what you see on Monday, Thursday, or Friday night when it comes to the women wrestlers and that's a very good thing. We end up with a bit of an extended squash here, as McKay gets in just enough to keep it interesting but spends the majority of the match being Kana's punching bag. McKay has shown signs of improvement since I last saw her here, but her selling is great none the less as Kana takes her down with some nasty looking kicks. MMA fans can appreciate the ending as Kana gets Jessie all wrapped up in submissions on the mat before some rolling and struggling that ends in Kana catching poor McKay in what looks like a Katagatame as Jessie taps out @ 8:37

Eddie Kingston

vs.

Eddie Kingston is a mean mofo to say the least. He's a good guy (or babyface/technico), but you still don't want to get on his bad side. He's also looking to be in the best shape I have seen him in in years coming into this match. Kobald, is a very high wired baddy who is in The Batiri. Speaking of The Batiri, here comes Kodama again! The match is spent with Kingston pretty much having his way with Kobald until Kodama does something to cause Kobald to gain some form of advantage. Still, no matter how underhanded they get they still can't seem to put Kingston away! Eddie, has pretty much already earned his spot in the championship match to crown the Chikara Grand Champion. And with him on a roll, once he finally found a way to make the outside interference from Kodama a none-factor, he's able to steamroll Kobald with The Backfist to the Future @ 7:04 for the win!
WINNER: EDDIE KINGSTON (pin)

Mike Quackenbush (who is THE man in Chikara) is in the back for a quick promo for his matchup with Sara Del Rey. Mike informs Sara that everyone knew she was a great wrestler. And that the only people who took that for granted was her former evil running buddies The BDK. He's proud she has the fans support now, but she's playing chess with the master. 12 Large: Summit Tournament Match (Block B)

And we are about to determine the winner of Block B in the 12 Large, as both these two have 6 points. Quackenbush pretty much IS Chikara. If the company every had a measuring stick it would be him. He's also a former NWA World Junior Champion, IWA Mid-South Champion, two times CZW World Junior Champion, and Chikara Campeonatos de Parejas with Jigsaw. For my money, Sara Del Rey is THE best woman wrestler today. She was the very first SHIMMER Champion and trust me, she's soo good that her beating a male wrestler is totally believable. The crowd loves Quack, as they should, but they still can't help but get behind Sara, to spite her not shaking Mike's hand at the start, as these two proceed to give us a pure wrestling clinic. Sara comes all at Mike with her trademark kicks as Quack decides that they best way to stop this problem is to neutralize it. He does so by going to work on the leg/knee of Sara and it proves to be pretty darn effective. Finally, Sara breaks free and unloads on Quackenbush and even looks like she might pull this off. That is until Mike gives her a nasty looking punt to the knee that seems to make everyone cringe a bit! Quack connects with the trademark palm strike and rolls her into Lightning Lock Beta. Sara still refuses to call it a day until Mike adds a Stretch Muffler finally getting Sara to tap out @ 15:00 This is for sure the shows highlight at this point.

The Colony (Fire Ant, Soldier Ant, Green Ant) & Ophidian

vs.

The BDK: (Tim Donst, Tursas, Jakob Hammermeier, Delirious)

The Colony, who won the 2011 King of Trios, are staples of Chikara. And Green Ant in particular seems to be on the rise as of late. Ophidian, was once part of the fun tag team the The Osirian Portal until the injury of his now former partner, Hieracon. The BDK was lead by Claudio Castagnoli until he was signed away by the WWE. Now the remaining group is still together and still trying to cause havoc, but it does seem a little odd without Claudio. If you've never seen a tag match like this in Chikara, then you need to know that action of this nature is very hard to call. Tags are not needed and if someone from a team slides out of ring or gets knocked out of the ring, another man can then legally come in. This makes for some very fun and exciting action. And that is just what we get here as the action is all over the place and pretty soon people are flying in and out of the ring to the crowd's enjoyment. There are a lot of close calls, but finally BDK pull of the win when Donst blocks the Duat Driver, flips him into a Mad Scientist facebuster, and applies a new submission called From Dusk Till Donst on Ophidian for tha tap out win @ 16:37

UltraMantis Black makes his way out for what is supposed to be a match against Vin Gerard. But, it looks like Vin couldn't be bothered to show up tonight so they announce Black as the winner by forfeit! Black still isn't happy about this and insist he wants to wrestler, bringing out none other than Archibald Peck, one of the more ridiculous and yet entertaining characters in this company, and his lady Veronica. Peck takes the microphone, runs down North Carolina a bit before introducing the new March Madness mascot..COLT...CABUNNY!? This wigs the fans out because they expected Colt Cabanna, who you may recall got a shout out from CM Punk on RAW not too long ago. The antics lead to action as Black gets Peck and goes for the Praying Mantis Bomb, but the bunny elbows him! Mantis corners the bunny, then gets Peck again kicking off an actual match!

vs.

Archibald Peck (w.Veronica & Colt Cabunny)

UltraMantis use to be one of the most evil and coolest heels in this company, but now he has found himself fighting the forces of evil himself. Archibald Peck is a marching band member, who is hilarious. He's also a very good talker on the microphone which means he can talk the crowd into a match even if it's a comedy match like this one. As things go along the crowd even chants, "Kill The Bunny!". Which shows you how awesome the fans at Chikara shows are. This, as I said, was more of a comedy match. Allowing fans to come down a bit from the previous awesome match and gets rested up for the main event. Still, it's a whole lot of fun and the crowd being troopers stay right along with it. UltraMantis Black does his thing and has to watch out for both Veronica and that darn Bunny! There is some flying, there is a steel chair, and it's all a lot of fun. Our ending sequence comes when Peck heads up top only to miss the Cranial Crescendo. Mantis then blocks a boot and nails the Cosmic Disaster for the pin @ 8:28
WINNER: ULTRAMANTIS BLACK (pin)

Johnny Gargano & Chuck Taylor (F.I.S.T.) who are the current Chikara Campeonatos de Parejas are in the back cutting a promo on Atsushi Kotoge & Daisuke Harada, which is our main event tonight! These two sure do pull off the annoying heel act very very well. If you've not heard of these two before, I'm sure you will. They are great characters and make up a great team.

F.I.S.T.: Chuck Taylor & Johnny Gargano (Campeones)

Campeonatos de Parejas

vs.

Atsushi Kotoge & Daisuke Harada

F.I.S.T. are coming off winning the Campeonatos de Parejas from Quack & Jugsaw. They also have their F.I.S.T. pal Icarus trying to run around outside before being sent back to the backstage area. Kotoga & Harada are the current Osaka Pro tag team champions over in Japan. So, they are very well qualified for this type of match and spot on the card. Title matches for the Campeonatos de Parejas are done under a 2/3 falls rule. Which is very different and makes things interesting. The action kicks off here with the first fall naturally being the slowest. It all about the build and it goes back and forth with the built until things pickup and the champs pulls some underhanded tricks. One of these tricks result in Taylor rolling up Kotoge with a handfull of his tights to win the first fall @ 9:38
FALL ONE WINNER: F.I.S.T. (pin)
It should go without saying that Atsushi Kotoge & Daisuke Harada didn't like that result very much and neither did the crowd. Taylor and Gargano have no time to celebrate as Kotoge & Harada unleash the beast on them, showing everyone why they are the current Osaka Pro champions! We see a series of double teams and very well crafted moves as the Chikara champs just seems to be too overwhelmed in the second fall. Harada delivers a hip toss knee strike to Johnny Gargano. Kotoge then connects with a superkick to him from the apron. Harada then delivers a German suplex to win the second fall @ 15:15 with a very nice sequence.
FALL TWO WINNER: ATSUSHI KOTOGE & DAISUKE HARADA
Alrighty, we are one and one so this will give us our winners here as the deciding fall begins.F.I.S.T. attack at the start but out visitors from Osaka take over soon after. Things break down quickly and we have the standard high speed indie breakdown where tags are out the window and people are flying everywhere. If you've never seen this, it's very exciting stuff. Things start to look a little too bleak for F.I.S.T as Icarus once again runs our and gets in the mix of things, taking the referee out of the game before Kotoge takes Icarus. This distraction is just enough for the ref to miss Gargano nail Harada with one of the belts. F.I.S.T. double superkick Harada. They hit an assisted DDT, then follow that up by pop him up into Gargano’s Hurts Donut for the pin @ 22:43 YES, this is a main event that does deliver the good.
WINNERS: F.I.S.T. (pin)

Chikara is FUN, there's no other way to put it. They give you a great mix of fast paced action and comedy. They don't take things too seriously and unlike some indie promotions, they don't burn you out during the show. This was a fine event that makes you want to see High Noon even more than you probably already did. There isn't a bad match on the show, but the main event and Quack vs. Sara was the things that really stood out.

My Stoogeum Visit - Don't Be a Lame Brain!! You gotta go!

So many afternoons in front of the television spent with my 3 friends...sure they were stooges but, we shared a lot of laughs. Still today, you can stumble across some form of 3 Stooges on Tv, from the many, many shorts, to possibly an appearance on Scooby Doo (hey, I try not to miss an episode).

I was completely shocked, as you might have heard on our XOCPodcast (www.xocpodcast.com) when I found out about the 3 Stooges Museum, what was even more of a shocker...it was 2 minutes from my House!! The Stoogeum is tucked in a small business area of Spring House, PA, maybe 20 minutes from Philadelphia. From one Stooge to another...it is well worth the trip.

I head out with @BroccoliRob11 who has become a bit of a fan of the Stooges hyjinks too. This is a Free museum, but runs by your donations. Trust me when I say, it was clean, family friendly and well worth the trip.

A 100 seated Theater with classic 3 Stooges short films playing all day long. Movie Memorabilia from every era, every stooge. From the early Ted Healey days, to the bitter end of a an amazing legacy. Everything from lobby cards to Puppets. Video games, that are free to play...(of course I had to try my hand at some Stooges pinball!!). You can retrace the history...look at their contracts, uncashed checks....photos of all kinds.

Regardless of your knowledge of 3 Stooges, chances are, you have sat and watched them in some form. Currently, on http://www.crackle.com/ you can watch the made for Tv movie, The Three Stooges, which isn't 100% factual, it gives you an idea on how much they did for the love of laughter. Thats the key here folks...Laughter. Grab the Wife, bring the kids and head out to the the Stoogeum...or I'll poke you in the eyes!!

The Prologue
Vincent D'Onofrio, who you may recall as an actor who starred in Full Metal Jacket and Law and Order, is behind the director's chair for, Don't Go in the Woods. And if you haven't heard yet, Don't Go in the Woods is in fact a horror musical! A woods based slasher with music to be exact. Now I've never been a fan of musicals. I really didn't care for "Repo" and I know a ton of people loved that one. So I wasn't expecting much when I went into this one. Needless to say, the results were a bit of a mixed bag at the end of the day for me. It's a film I won't say I hate, but it's a movie that is lacking on a few fronts.

The Movie
A young band heads to the woods in order to focus on writing new songs. Hoping to emerge with new music that will score them their big break, they instead find themselves in the middle of a nightmare beyond comprehension. And if you don't like indie music, then the horror these people face might not result to the amount the horror you face while watching. I myself am a bit of an indie music fan, so outside the bad Bright Eyes impression of the lead I didn't have much of a problem with the music.

As I've touched on here already, I didn't have an issue with the music here. Maybe there's a bit too much of it overall. but it was music that didn't suck and some of it was rather catchy. Out of the musical numbers our cast breaks into, only one sucked and it sucked very badly. Maybe that was intentional since the actual horror portion of the film breaks out during this horrible number. But if there is a very negative portion of the film, it would be the fact that for a horror film that runs around an hour and a half, only about 15 of those minutes are horror. The other time is spent singing and following some hipsters in the woods. Hipsters that are being...well..hipsters.

When our band travels to the woods to be alone, without the comfort of phones, drugs, or anything else that's typical of horror films from the past. I admit it was a bit of a surprise and an interesting concept. Of course this gets tossed out the window when the girlfriends and other random women of the band follow them without notification. This of course sets off our frustrated and strange lead singer of the band, who looks a whole heck of a lot like Elijah Woods. We then are treated to him being an overall ass and walking around with his guitar whining his way through a song or two. Of course these woods are loaded with hunters that don't care much for our city folk, but are they the root of the film's evil or is it something else?

If you couldn't already tell, this film is different. But as different as it is, it still won't be for everyone. I really liked the music but I think it needed some more actual horror scenes in it for it to be truly outstanding. And it did have the potential to be a breath of fresh air and a classic, but the chance gets lost as it spends about 80 minutes of it's time on dudes being moody and singing. So instead of being a breath of fresh air and a modern classic, the film has to settle for just being different, odd, but still having some good tunes. The gore was good for what it was, but their just wasn't enough of it. So to sum it up, it was a nice try and it's not horrible. But it needed more actual horror.

The Conclusion
I'm sure some will love this. At the same time, I'm sure many will hate it. I find myself somewhere in the middle. I didn't hate it, I liked the music, but I wanted the horror aspect of it more obvious. It needed to have more killing throughout the film, rather than just at the end. I will admit that I think Vincent D'Onofrio at least shows that he knows his way around a camera.

Killer Vixens Battle a Creature From the Ocean’s Dept hs in this Retro-Horror Thriller from Vicious Cir cle Films

January 13, 2012 - Philadelphia, PA — Breaking Glass Pictures has announced the February 28 DVD release of the nautical bloodbath, retro-horror thriller “El Monstro del Mar!” (SRP $24.99). “El Monstro del Mar!” mixes sexy yet deadly beauties, the infamous Vernian monster, and a grindhouse feel that gets the blood pumping and brings a renewed fear of what lives in the sea. Let the bloodbath begin!

Three gorgeous but deadly hired killers, Beretta, Blondie and Snowball, hole up in a small beachside community to keep a low profile. But this town has a dark secret. The local old sea baron, Joseph, tries desperately to warn them to never go into the water. But these crazy vixens listen to no one, especially not some crazy-assed old fool. So the Kraken awakes! Now, along with Joseph and his beautiful grand daughter, Hannah, they must fight for their lives against this furious creature of the deep as the sea rises in a tidal wave of blood.

The film stars Norman Yemm (“Night of Fear”, TV’s “The Sullivans”), alongside newcomers Nelli Scarlet, Kyrie Capri, and Karli Madden as the deadly vixens. Director Stuart Simpson brings the horrors of the deep into the light with fresh and familiar faces, which brings the thrills, chills, and buckets of blood to new and exciting heights.

“El Monstro del Mar!” has received multiple awards at festivals including Best Director at the Fixon-Sars Film Festival, Best Film at the Melbourne Underground Film Festival, Most Cool at the Pollygrind Film Festival and Best Special Effects at the Atlanta Horror Film Festival.

I've always said that pro wrestling fans (which we cover now) was a whole lot like horror fans. Both are very passionate about what they love, and more times than not they both intertwine. So it was pretty cool to run across this video today of when makeup and effects genius, Tom Savini decided to travel down to Memphis Tennessee to confront wrestling legend Jerry "The King" Lawler. One part of this forgotten story can be found in the video below.

The Prologue
The Dead, is a new zombie flick that it soon to be unleashed upon the world. And unlike most of what you see these days with zombie movies, you get a more old school theme with this one. But, it comes with a new twist on it as well. This movie here is the type of movie that George Romero should have been making as of late. I won't say that The Dead is the greatest zombie movie I have ever seen, but I will admit that it's perhaps the best one we've seen in a number years. It's a little slow moving, like the zombies in it, but I think if you get the chance to check this one out you won't be disappointed.

The Movie
When the last evacuation flight out of war-torn Africa crashes off the coast, American Air Force Engineer Lieutenant Brian Murphy (ROB FREEMAN) emerges as the sole survivor in a land where the dead are returning to life and attacking the living. On the run in a hostile and inhospitable parched landscape, where sudden death lurks around every sun-burnished corner, Murphy has to use his wits and ingenuity if he is to get home alive to his family. When Murphys path clashes with that of Sergeant Daniel Dembele (PRINCE DAVID OSEI), whose village has been torn apart by the reanimated dead, they join forces. The two desperate men from two very different cultures fight side by side to survive across the incredible vistas of Africa as the world succumbs to the deadliest of viruses.

In a nice nod to the way classic zombie movies were, the zombies in this film do not run. Actually, I'm not so sure they even shamble. To be honest with you, some actually walk. Regardless of the slow moving nature of these zombies, it's the type of stuff that works really well in a horror film, building tension and making the dread feeling you get of seeing a group of zombies head towards someone who is seemingly helpless all the more intense. Taking place in predominantly African part of the world, the fact that 95% of the zombies we see are black, is a bit of an odd but undeniable intriguing aspect to the film's presentation. Adding in that different factor and the strong acting, you have a film that could crack anyone's year end Top 10, if they saw it this year. When it comes out on an official release next year, you could see it again on more year ending Top 10s.

This film also benefits from the way it starts. The action and zombie fighting is in high gear at the beginning of the movie. And that does last for a very respectable amount of time. Then the story of the film settles in and things do start to slow down a bit. While from that point, it never does seem to ever reach the same level of excitement it started with, it DOES have a very strong ending. An ending that is a bit of a throwback in it's own right to the classics of the past. If I really wanted to nitpick, I COULD bring up the fact that the worst part of the film is the CGI gunshots we have to watch from time to time, but that would just be nitpicking and we shouldn't dwell THAT much on it. It's annoying, but doesn't overshadow the film as a whole.

Breaking this thing down, you have a well acted and very bleak story. And old school zombie flick that tops every Romero zombie movie he has made since he kicked his back off with Land of the Dead in 2005. We have gore, drama, and suspense. And most importantly, it's not a comedy so we don't have zombies running around breaking any field and track records. So if you miss seeing zombie movies made the way they use to be and in my humble opinion, the way they SHOULD be, then The Dead is the zombie movie for you. I think anyone who loves the classics will also love this.

The Conclusion
Anchor Bay picked this one up and they have picked up a very good one! If you haven't been ever so lucky to have seen this in advance or seen a screener, you'll want to rush out and get this one when it comes out in February 2012. So take my word on it, it's very much worth taking a chance on and buying it when you get the chance.

When a middle-aged gunslinger is hired to kill a brothel owner practicing barbaric acts on his prostitutes, he may not have time for his usual, stylish methods of assassination. And he may not be killing for the reason he thinks. So see there? The plot thickens! And it thickens very well if I do say so myself. Not only is this a movie for the people who like western films, this is one that is good enough to find a place with anyone who loves film in general.

Well, this sure isn't your daddy's western movie. The Scarlet Worm was a film that going into I knew nothing about. But now after seeing it I can honestly say it's well shot, well crafted, well acted, and superbly comes together to give you a western style film that feels more like a mobster movie in a lot of ways. Being a very character driven affair, the character of Print, played by actor Aaron Stielstra, jumps off the screen at you in a very memorable performance that just about makes the entire picture. It's a movie that packs a very nice punch with it's twists and turns that could rival many more well known and bigger budgeted films in this same vein. You may not know what this film is now, but I think once you see it you'll be speaking nothing but highly of it.

The story is about a man who doesn't just kill, he makes an art of it. But don't worry, as brutal as his methods are, in his mind he is doing it for all the right reasons. When he's sent to do in a guy running a whore house (for lack of a better term), the job seems easy and simple enough. But once we dig down deep into things and the plot gets much more complicated, you'll find yourself a little on edge at times. This of course is a very good thing, ya know? Not to mention the fact this movie has tons of violence and give us lot of nice bloody moments and cool deaths on screen. Enough to make even a horror fan appreciate it. So with all that being said, I do gladly recommend The Scarlet Worm to you guys reading this.

This past weekend, I finally gave in....and watched Scream 4. I, like many others LOVED the original Scream. I felt that it made fun of the genre, it wasn't afraid to poke some fun, wasn't afraid to establish rules AND break them, it also helped launch some great careers for those involved. The unfortunate part, it spawned 2 more sequels that got worse and worser...(I know...not a word, but they were pretty bad)

I had heard mixed reviews on Scream 4, that might have played a part in me dragging my feet to view this one. Getting some of the original cast back together is a plus and Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson back at the helm, certainly makes me have some hope. Staring at the box art, it seemed like I couldn't hold out forever, I finally pushed "add to #1 position", 2 days later and I'm ready. I was so afraid of this just being a last attempt at cashing in on the "Shitty Horror Train".

All aboard....

Without giving a play by play of Scream 4, let me give my thoughts in a spoiler free review. I really liked this movie, regardless of hearing other's opinions. The "cool trend" is to openly bash commercial releases, especially sequels and remakes just don't fit here. This film mixes fresh faces with some familiar faces that have some Hollywood pull. You have cameo's by Kristin Bell, who I fell in love with from Fanboys, plus Anna Panquin, of True Blood fame (which lost me after Season 2..haha). Plus, the regular cast of Neve Campbell who returns to Woodsboro to promote her book. Dewey (David Arquette) and Gale (Courteney Cox) are there...but we see some of Sidney's family pulled into the mix. Kind of a passing of the torch.

They introduce Emma Robert (with some star power family bloodlines in Julia Roberts & Eric Roberts) as Sidney's cousin Jill. Jill, plays the perfect victim..she's small, frail and cute. Hayden Panettiere is her friend, who looks HOT with short hair, but who do we start to suspect amongst the mix? Lot's of murder, twists, mixed in with typical Scream comedy...makes this a winner.

Will everyone like this? Probably not, but I felt this was a great return to where it began. Good writing, simply Ghostface phone calls, that always make me smile, plus everyone plays the roles great. I would recommend this one, especially if you liked the original.

My Recommendation - Definitely a Dvd buy. It has some rewatch value. I would watch part 1 and be satisfied with jumping to part 4. I'm good without the Cotton Weary continuation, without the extra nonsense from part 2 or 3. I really do like the Stab franchise mixture though.

* My recommendation system - I rate movies on a system - A Combo purchase (The Blu Ray, dvd and Digital download) being the best and simply watching it on Tv, or even passing being the bottom of barrel. Instead of rating it by stars, I think judging how much time or money we spend on a film, means much more than just stars.

Class of Nuke 'Em High (1986) (Blu-ray Review)

The Prologue
Troma has a lot of famous films, or should I say infamous films. Many of their large library have went on to gain a large cult following and Class of Nuke 'Em High is one of those that have. Mixing in the elements of a teen comedy from the 80s, with Troma's vulgar touch, you could say that Class of Nuke 'Em High has it all. But is it mixed all that well? I must confess that I did find it a little lacking in some areas. And since we are talking about the blu-ray here, I gotta admit I found the transfer of the film lacking in a few areas as well. But can the undeniable Troma charm win me over regardless?

The Movie
When Warren and Chrissy notice some strange things happening around their high school, they begin to suspect that something is going on at the nuclear plant next door. Though the plant officials deny that there are any problems, Crissy gives birth to a bloodthirsty mutant who immediately begins eating everyone in the school. Will Warren and Chrissy be able to stop their killer kid?..It'll make more sense when you actually watch it, I promise.

Class of Nuke 'Em High is a horror film underneath everything else, but it's horror-lite. A good deal of the movie is spent focusing on the teen aspect of things. We have a group of kids at school getting ready to go to a party, we have a gang at the school selling drugs, that just so happens to be infected due to the local Traomville nuclear plant, and most the time the gang bullies the other kids. Now of course once the party comes and our leading couple is forced to try this tainted dope is when things pick up and a more horror tone comes into play. Still, it sorta seems like the horror angle is being downplayed due to a lot of other stuff.

Now don't get me wrong, there is a laugh or two here, but some of the jokes sadly don't work that well. There are some great effects here however. Some of the best I've seen by Troma from this time period, or perhaps ever. There's a lot of mutating and that leads to some people getting all sorts of messed up and it's done really well here. I think I'd say that the effects are the film's best thing it has going for it's self. While more times than not these films are super low budget, as I'm sure this one was. This is one film from their library that actually seems like it had some money placed into it from time to time.

I suppose the best way to sum up this movie would be for me to say that it's like a teen comedy from hell. You got the clean cut boy and the pretty girl who never do anything wrong. And when they are peer pressured into it for once, nothing but bad (and still funny) things come from it. It may not be a film to write home about overall, but I will say it can be a fun watch sometime when you have nothing better to do and want to just chill out. Like I said, at least you'll have some gnarly effects from the 80s to see while you do it.

The Conclusion
It's a little all over the place, but it isn't horrible. Some of the comedy was lost on me, yet I still enjoyed the gore and effects. So the film is pretty middle of the road for me I suppose. The transfer of the blu-ray was a little disappointing. I know Troma isn't know for the highest quality in the picture, but this wasn't all that great looking, better than DVD, but not the most detailed blu-ray I've seen.

A great movie for baseball fans!

The Prologue
As a lifelong fan of baseball (Go Tampa Bay!), I'm always down for watching a baseball film, especially when it's a good one. Now over the years I decided that the film, Major League was THE baseball movie but I went into watching Moneyball with an open mind. After all, the film does have Brad Pitt in the leading role of the Oakland A's GM, Billy Beane. And we all know that Brad always seems to put in a memorable performance, no matter what role it is. Toss in a oddly tolerable Jonah Hill (While he was still fat) as Brad's #2, and you have a film that I can enjoy. And I do see why it got such a warm welcome from most critics.

The Movie
Oakland A's GM Billy Beane is handicapped with the lowest salary constraint in baseball. If he ever wants to win the World Series, Billy must find a competitive advantage. Billy is about to turn baseball on its ear when he uses statistical data to analyze and place value on the players he picks for the team. What follows is the great story of the 2002 Oakland A's and how they pretty much turned nothing into something.

Baseball is a game of numbers, that's the point of the movie. Only the numbers that Billy and Peter (Pitt and Hill) are interested in are combined numbers, lead by a good on base % of each player. This differs from most, especially at the time of 2002 when this movie was taking place. Players are swept up from smaller teams, usually by baseball giants The Yankees or the Red Sox and the little teams are left trying to compete. What the A's did was not try to compete by simply buying big players, they couldn't afford it. This film shows how they changed the game and we see it take place under another outstanding performance from Brad Pitt.

As everyone knows, or should know, the A's didn't win the 2002 MLB World Series, they didn't even make it. But they did something that had never before been done at the time. They turned a nothing team into something and they took part in one of the biggest winning streaks ever. That is what the film focuses on. And as it builds up to that we see all the under the radar deals and ways of baseball. I found this all really interesting and fascinating and it makes for a film that can be interesting for people, even if you don't like baseball. After all, you still have such actors as Brad Pitt and Philip Seymour Hoffman (in the role of A's skipper, Art Howe) on screen. And those guys are always fun to watch.

After the big events of the film, Billy Beane makes a comment that unless you win the last game of the season (aka The World Series), that nobody will care about what they have done during the season. As if to say that no matter what you accomplish if you aren't the champion it won't matter. Luckily in this case Billy was wrong. I was happy to see this film mostly focus on the great stuff the A's did in 2002. As odd and awkward as it was at the time, the "by the numbers" style of baseball would go on to influence how teams are built even today. And the fact we have Brad Pitt here in a great role only helps make sure that what happened in Oakland in 2002 will never be forgotten.

The Conclusion
If you love baseball, you will probably like this a little more than you will if you don't like baseball. There is great acting, a few funny moments, and it really does dip into the business and show us a different side of it. It's a bitter sweet story at heart and it really puts the spotlight on something that a lot may have forgotten all about over the years.

An old man that lives in an old house conducts a correctional institute for girls. But he does not realize that the date is the present as he is cooped up in the house. He is assisted my a matron who likes to get the girls into trouble and present them in front of the old man who thinks he is the law and he passes out punishment. Afterwards the girls get tied to a cross and whipped. Meanwhile The matrons son falls in love with a girl at a party and bring her to the this house.

House of Whipcord, is a film that in some ways might remind you of the film Hostel, at least in it's setup of the plot. I'm sure this film had to be somewhat influential in that film. And if it wasn't, what a coincidence that was. The film also sets the table for you in a very interesting way, as it takes it time to attempt to get you behind a couple characters that perhaps isn't as important as they appear to be. The story is done in a very nice way and while there isn't any blood or gore really flying all over the place on the TV while the movie is on, you at least get some cool scenes and it does an OK job at building up some suspense to the viewer. It also brings out some nice characters that are interesting and make watching the film fun in some points.

We see the film really go the way of a women in prison film rather quickly, only we don't have all the nudity and such that the older films of that nature have. We do see women beaten and hung by a group of very evil people, women included in the group, and a somewhat funny blind male judge. As much as the film might try, there is a lead we don't feel too bad for, even with all the film's effort. That may be due to the fact that these characters aren't the smartest we've ever seen on film. But it does a fine job for what it is and what it does give. It does such a good job that I will go as far as to say that it is worth checking out, to spite any of it's flaws..And it does have a few. But the positives are better than the negatives in this case.

The Prologue
The Shining was Stanley Kubrick's one and only dip into the horror genre. For this film he adapted a Stephen King book to the screen and he'd cast another legend, Jack Nicholson in the leading role. Perhaps more so than others, this was the film that cemented the legend of Kubrick being a little hard to work with. He'd go on to deeply upset Shelley Duvall on set with his take after take after take of a scene. He'd call both Jack Nicholson and Stephen King up in the middle of the night and ask some very odd questions. But when you are making a movie that shows us one man's decent into madness, isn't that behavior appropriate?

The Movie
A man, his son and wife become the winter caretakers of an isolated hotel where Danny, the son, sees disturbing visions of the hotel's past using a telepathic gift known as "The Shining". The father, Jack Torrance, is underway in a writing project when he slowly slips into insanity as a result of cabin fever and former guests of the hotel's ghosts. After being convinced by a waiter's ghost to "correct" the family, Jack goes completely insane. The only thing that can save Danny and his mother is "The Shining".

There is an uneasy feeling that just swarms the overall presentation of The Shining. And as it has been proven as of late, if you feel a little sick while watching the film it's 100% intentional. Mixed in with the haunting story of a man flipping his wig, is set that was actually designed in a manner to mess with the audience's mind a bit. This was fact that wasn't really known until ABC news did a story about it late last year. I find it as just another cool element that went into the making of this film. A film that many of you voted for back when we did the Top 10 Horror Films of the 80s voting a couple years back.

At the center of this film that packs scenes of spooky twins, grotesque women coming out of a tub, and a boy who has "the shine", is Jack Nicholson. Jack is notably overacting some of the scenes in the film, perhaps even 90% of his on screen time. But it doesn't hurt things at all, it works. The story behind that is the fact that Stanley Kubrick was a big fan of James Cagney and that is one reason he wanted an over the top Nickolson. In the role of, Jack Torrance, Jack would go on to create one of the most memorable characters ever on film. We watch as he works on his book, we watch as he talks to people that may not really be there, and we watch and wiggle in our chairs as he puts an ax through a door. A scene that would have to be among the list of all-time greatest scenes ever shot.

As the film goes on into it's ending, you can't help but notice it is a film that takes it's time. The build can be slow, but it's like heating water. You put it on and you wait as it starts to slowly boil, and that's what happens here. By the time the story reaches it's boiling point, it's a nail biter and a very exciting climax to a very well crafted and acted film. It also leaves us with yet another iconic image to end the film. If you want to see a well made horror film, The Shining is a well made horror film. And while it's slow, it's nothing but pure class from start to finish. It doesn't have a lot of gore. I doesn't pack a man in a mask running around either. But it does give us all the essentials a horror film should have.

The Conclusion
Upon it's release, Stephen King wasn't too pleased with the ending results of this film. And he'd even go on to make his own version of The Shining. But this one here, is a film you'd be hard pressed to find anything wrong with. As far as the blu-ray transfer of this goes, it's a very vivid looking film. I think most fans of blu-ray will be well pleased with the definition and detail of this great movie.

Udo Kier is a witch hunter apprentice to Herbert Lom. He believes strongly in his mentor and the ways of the church but loses faith when he catches Lom strangling Reggie Nalder to death for calling him impotent. Kier begins to see for himself that the witch trials are nothing but a scam of the church to rob people of their land, money, and other personal belongings of value and seduce beautiful big breasted women. In the end, the towns people revolt, Herbert Lom escapes and poor Udo is tortured to death by the towns people with the his own torture devices. This film contains very strong graphic torture including a women's tongue being ripped out of her head, nuns being raped(in the opening credits), and lots of beatings.

Everyone loves a good witch hunt every now and again. And this movie here at least gives us a few very interesting characters while goes through the motions. It also tosses in some oddly calm music that I think may be the same music (or close to it) as was used for the intro to Hobo With a Shotgun. It's an odd picture overall. It looks more classy than the norm, but still comes off as an exploitation film. We have nudity mixed in with some violence. While some of the violence is pretty cool (burning people alive and tongues being ripped out), I don't think you'll need the barf bag that the cover makes the suggestion that you will need. Still, it's not too shabby for it's time. I will at least give credit to the film for it's overall presentation.

The film builds a few layers to it's overall story. It does drag however in a few spots in the middle. That dragging is enough to bring the film down just a bit, but not too much to cause any sort of alarm. The witch hunting (as corrupt as it is) turns into a bit of a cat and mouse game before the film wraps up. And when it does wrap up, if you've managed to invest into some characters it might bug you a bit. The thing is, there's not a lot here to make you care about the characters. Is it well made? Yes, it is. Does it have some nice violence? It sure does. But the thing is, as pretty as the cast might be, you still can't get emotionally attached to it. It's still not bad for what it is.

Stanley Kubrick's epic nightmare of horror

When Chuck and I spoke about doing a Stanley Kubrick month I had to contain the pitter patter of me tap dancing with joy. If I could take Kubrick's head, paint it with gold, and put it above my fireplace I'd be the happiest girl alive. No, that's not at all creepy. Whatever, he'd understand. I don't think it's possible for me to kick off a food pairing with out starting with The Shining. Rightfully so, it IS a fan favorite, an all around cult classic, has a tag team duo of Stephen King and Stanley Kubrick, and it's flat out a film I can never get enough of.

Stanley Kubrick comes off as a quirky type of man. However, in my experience some of the quirkiest individuals are the most talented in all of the universe. It's no shocker to read about the filming of The Shining and find out he would randomly call Stephen King up at 3 A.M. and ask him questions such as "Do you believe in god?". It's also not a shocker to find out that at a time when blood was prohibited in trailers that he was able to charm his way into convincing the MPAA that the blood coming out of the elevator was really "rusty water". I love it! The only thing that may make me equally as happy was the performance of Jack Nicholson as Jack.

Poor Jack, all he really wanted to do was finish his book. Unfortunately for him and his family, that Winter they picked the wrong isolated hotel to do so in. Let's be honest for a second here, is there ever really a good option for an isolated hotel? If you ask me, It's kind of along the lines of never having sex in the woods. Back to the point, ghosts appear, insanity sets in, and that's when stuff really begins to pop off. Then it's time to get infamous lines such as "Redrum", "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy", and my personal favorite " Heeeere's Johnny". The Shinning is chilling, mystical, a complete psychological tug of war, and every aspect of it makes me want to cook a feast. So let's cook!

Dull Boy Buns
Don't let the title fool you, these buns are anything but dull. The addition of spices and herbs takes any basic bun and turns it into a ax wielding maniac.

Ingredients:
- 4 Hamburger Buns
- 2 Tablespoons Butter, melted
- Onion Powder
- Fresh Chives

Directions:
Melt the butter in a microwave safe bowl. Lightly brush the tops of each bun with a little of the butter. Sprinkle a pinch of onion powder and chives over each. Toast in the oven on a baking sheet with the settings to broil for 3-5 minutes.

Heeeere's A Chili Cheese Burger
Why have a regular plain old burger when you can have one that kicks you in the mouth with fresh spices, tasty cheeses, and is topped of with the God's nectar? By the God's nectar I mean chili of course.

Ingredients:
- 1 Pound Lean Ground Beef
- 1/2 Cup Cheddar Cheese
- 8 Pieces of Bacon, Cooked
- 1 Tablespoon Minced Garlic
- 1 Cup White Onion, Diced
- 1/4 Cup Dry Bread Crumbs
- 1 Tablespoon BBQ Sauce
- 1 Tablespoon Chili Sauce
- 1 Tablespoon Jalapeno, Diced
- 1/2 Teaspoon Liquid Smoke
- 1/4 Teaspoon Salt
- 1/4 Teaspoon Black Pepper
- 2 Eggs
- 1 Can Chili, Your favorite kind and heated up
- 4 Slices Colby Jack
- 2 Tablespoons Olive OIl to cook

Directions:
Cook bacon until crisp, drain on a plate and set aside. In a large bowl mix together ground beef, Colby Jack, Bacon, Garlic, Onion, Bread Crumbs, BBQ Sauce, Jalapeno, and egg. In a large skillet heat up the olive, or get the grill going. Form the mixture into 4 patties and cook for 5 minutes one each side, or until your liking. Serve cooked patties with 1 slice of sharp cheddar melted and 1 Tablespoon cooked chili over the top. Place in between a set of "Dull Boy Buns".

Makes 4

Redrum Cake Shake
I'm a sucker for anything red velvet. Maybe it's the blood red color, or just the fact that it's topped with cream cheese. Who knows. What I do know though, is that when I put it in shake form my red velvet intake is at max speed and I love it.

Ingredients:
- 1 Box Red Velvet Cake Mix, Plus ingredients needed from the back of box
- 1/2 Cup Cream Cheese, Plus 1 Tablespoon (per shake), Softened
- 1 Tablespoon Rum
- 3 Big scoops Vanilla Ice Cream (per shake)
- 1/2 Cup Milk (per shake)

Directions:
Bake cake according to directions, except add 1/2 Cup Cream Cheese and 1 Tablespoons Rum to the cake batter.

In a blender put 1 big slice of cake, Ice cream, milk, and 1 Tablespoon cream cheese. Blend until smooth. If you want to leave the shake slightly chunky with cake then do not blend as smooth. Top off with a little crumbled cake.

Makes 1- 6

I'm not sure how many of you are keen on the old cartoon/comic series Masters of the Universe. But even if that name doesn't ring a bell, you probably know all about the character He-Man! The do-gooder son of a bitch who protects all who live on the planet of Eternia..Oh wait, I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's do some backtracking...

THIS is Eternia. Sorta looks like Earth doesn't it? Anyway, according to the Masters of the Universe cannon, Eternia is the center of the universe. Besides He-Man (who is the point of this and I shall get to it in a moment), it is also the place that homes snakemen, mossmen, skunkmen, and countless other nasty and friendly beast that would go against and at times stand beside He-Man in his never ending battle for the sake of good! But one fact remains when you break down Eternia and it's "Eternians", they are all really stupid.

You see, throughout fictional history, many a great men have went out of their way to hide who they truly were. Bruce Wayne, Peter Parker, and even Matt Murdock all went to great lengths to protect the fact that they were Batman, Spider-Man, and Daredevil respectively. The weakest disguise was a title once held by Clark Kent, who used the grand costume of a pair of glasses to protect his identity from Louis Lane and the rest of Metropolis (another dumb area in fictional history). But as weak of a trick as that was, there was at least a little effort placed into it.

Now, in the small chance you weren't aware of this already, He-Man parades around under the identity of Prince Adam. Personality wise, most would probably never guess that they were both one in the same. But what does Prince Adam use to coverup the fact he's He-Man? Well, here's a look at Prince Adam.

OK, now take a look at Prince Adam when he in full on He-Man mode.

Wait, WHAT? That's right, folks. Prince Adam doesn't do a single damn thing to cover the fact he's He-Man. Not a mask, not a pair of glasses, not even a different hairstyle. Adam simple takes off his wimpy looking clothes and puts on the barbaric style outfit that is the trademark for He-Man. And NOBODY besides his companion Battle Cat knows the difference. Yep, that sums it up. Eternia may be the land of giants, flying bee people, and the most heroic man to ever walk the planet using the power of GreySkull. But at the same time, they have to be the dumbest people to ever grace the fictional pages of comic books or the animated screen of cartoons.
